About this BLOG

My interest in Bedford and area is about the Homefront during WWII
I would like to invite people to tell me their stories to show here, pictures, anything that would help re create a feeling of life at this time.
I am especially interested in getting info about the Troop Train, bringing soldiers to and from their camps.
The dances that were held in and around this area. I am told about a wonderful dance place in Sunnyside, I would like to hear about it, see some pics.
Spotlight Stations (to help spot planes in case of an air raid)
The churches, transportation, the companies, how they delt with rationing, how did people get their news, how quick was it, what radio stations were available, how current was the news, many many topics to explore.

I tried going to do some research and to teh archives, which I need to go back there again soon, and I end up with more questions than answers. So, I will post more as time goes on, but would like to find people that can contribute to this goal. The number of folk still surviving that lived through those years that served away or at home are becoming rare.
If someone would like to contribute and would like me to come visit them to record their story, please contact me at first by my email. I would be happy to go meet them and get their story.

View of Bedford Basin

Above is a pic of Bedford Basin with Dartmouth (left side of harbor at top) & Halifax on the right. Bedford itself is at the very bottom of the pic shown. During WWII this was a gathering place for ships to form convoys before heading overseas.
